Single-mode glass channel waveguides by ion-exchange with ionic masking

Abstract Fabrication of single-mode channel waveguides by silver ion-exchange with ionic masking is studied. Calculated and measured mode profiles at 1.3 μm wavelength are presented. Very low waveguide losses at 1.3 μm wavelength are measured. As a device example a nonsymmetric Mach-Zehnder interferometer at 1.55 μm wavelength region is demonstrated.
