A Novel Cup-Shaped Inverted Hemispherical Dielectric Resonator Antenna for Wideband Applications

A novel cup-shaped dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) geometry based on inverted hemispherical dielectric resonator antenna (HDRA) is proposed and investigated. The material used for investigation is Rogers TMM10, which is a ceramic thermoset polymer composite material having a dielectric constant of εr = 9.2. The cup-shaped geometry offers a wideband of 83% impedance bandwidth for dB at 2.3 GHz. Two modes have also been investigated which show the presence of TM101-like mode and TM01δ-like mode of the cylindrical DRA. The peak gain observed is 4.5 dBi at around 2.3 GHz. The measured results show that the efficiency is above 90% for the bandwidth of operation.
