Design of Full-rotating Podded Propeller and Study on the Characteristic of Its Hydrodynamics

The full rotating podded propeller is one of the most advanced special propellers, the study on the entire hydrodynamic characteristic of which has been focused on by the industry in these years. Whereas, the study on the design of podded propeller is few. Because the paticular structures of the pod, such as the propeller, the body and the davit, influence each other, the design method of its propeller is quite different from that of normal propeller. In this paper, the numerical lifting surface theory and the CFD method are used, to study the hydrodynamic variation of the podded propeller, to analyze how the podded structures influence the hydrodynamic characteristic of the propeller, and to provide a reliable method for the propeller design of podded propeller.
