A hybrid parametric/nonparametric approach for the identification of nonlinear systems

Abstract A hybrid identification procedure is presented for handling nonlinear systems in which a parametric model is used to describe the linear part of the structural model and a parametric/nonparametric approach is used to describe the nonlinear part. A review of some methods for identification of the parametric linear part is given, which is followed by an examination of several nonparametric approaches for modeling the nonlinear part, including the restoring force surface method and neutral networks. An application of the proposed approach is demonstrated by means of a nonlinear physical system incorporating bearing friction phenomena.
