Study on a voidage measurement method based on ERT system and Otsu algorithm

A new voidage measurement method for gas-liquid two-phase flow based on electrical resistance tomography (ERT) and Otsu algorithm is studied. A 16-electrode ERT system carries out for data collection and image reconstruction. Otsu algorithm is used to select the threshold adaptively and binarize the reconstructed images. According to the binarized images, the cross-sectional void fraction of gas-liquid two-phase flow is calculated. Then the average void fraction can be achieved through continuous sampling. Experiments show that the errors of the measured average void fraction values are within 8% and the method is effective.
