Research on Signal Control Method of Isolated Intersection Based on the Queuing Length Reliability

Considering the stochastic characteristics of traffic flow at the approach of intersection, a signal control method based on the queuing length reliability is proposed. Firstly, the formula of queuing length is obtained according to the traffic wave theory, and then the signal timing method which satisfies a predetermined queuing length reliability is constructed with the assumption that the traffic flow of intersection approach follows a normal or a lognormal distribution. Finally, some numerical studies are presented to verify the proposed signal timing model.
