HIGH PERFORMANCE ROUTING FOR IVHS

The intelligent vehicle of the future is likely to include route guidance functionality. The PathAccess program developed at Etak, Inc., serves as the basis for Etak's route guidance system. Being developed as a library to support multiple applications, it runs as a demonstration on Etak in-vehicle navigation computer NAV-IV with maps displayed on an LCD screen. The database used by pathfinding is a topological connectivity network where streets between intersections are edges and intersections are nodes on the adjacency graph. Edges have properties such as driving restrictions, distance, road classification, carrying capacity, etc. The path is computed from the vehicle position to the destination selected by the driver from the geocoding or business listings database. The resulting route is overlaid on the map along with the driving distance and the estimated time of arrival.
