Location, Sizing, and Operation Scheme of Power Storage in Distribution Systems

In this paper a methodology to find the location, size and operation scheme of power storage (PS) in distribution systems (DS) is presented with the aim of reducing the level of power technical losses and improve voltage profiles. Three operating scenarios of the DS are analyzed with this proposed methodology. The first scenario corresponds to the evaluation of base case, in which the initial conditions of the DS are determined. In the second scenario is considered the location of PS with batteries type REDOX. Finally, in the third scenario, location of PS with capacitors to correct operational problems generated by the charging of the batteries is used. A strategy of leader-follower type to solve the problem is used. In leader stage, a Chu-Beasley Genetic Algorithm (CBGA) is employed, which defines location and types of PS. In follower stage, an Evolutionary Algorithm (EA), that uses a matrix codification method to find the operation scheme of battery set determined in leader stage, is used. To verify the applicability and validity of proposed methodology, Baran and Wu of 69 nodes test feeder is employed.
