Publisher Summary
This chapter focuses on the methodology used for decisions leading to property evaluation/acquisition and EOR. The choice of variables is guided by both the availability of data and the analyst's intuition. This phase helps to analyze and estimate the technical feasibility of these recovery methods based on a more theoretical and engineering basis. Conventional screening, geologic screening and advanced screening are methodologies that are tried to come to a “go-no go” situation. Evaluating soft issues and predicting performance are studied next. In the performance stage, it's not whether a process is feasible but whether, once implemented, it will have the potential of incrementing production or a recovery factor. Based on the decision framework, predicting performance using analytical and numerical simulations or both is defined at early stages of the evaluation. Six field cases of detailing various facets and complexities are discussed for the readers' understanding. The first type looks at ‘Time Constraint and lack of Data’ and the second looks at “Insufficient time to use data”.
