Quality-of-Service Methods for Managing Communicating Applications

Quality-of-Service (QoS) support for distributed applications requires a comprehensive approach involving networks, applications, and communication subsystems. The guarantee of QoS for applications has been stated as the essential goal for QoS methods. Flexible protocol architectures and application programming interfaces for communication middleware offer a broad range of advanced communication subsystems, but still require a modularized QoS model providing separately controlled basic components for managing QoS guarantees. The developed modularized QoS model, termed MQM, offers an integrative model which is discussed and utilized for classifications of existing approaches.
