Ramulariopsis gossypii, which causes false mildew in cotton, was isolated in South Africa. Fruiting-bodies resembling those of the teleomorph, Mycosphaerella areola, were observed on decaying cotton leaves and bolls. Artificial inoculation studies confirmed the relationship between the anamorph and the newly-discovered teleomorph.
