Unraveling Sex Differences in Layered Plaque in Chronic Coronary Syndromes

Cardiovascular disease remains a leading cause of mortality worldwide with notable differences in ischemic presentation between men and women.1,2 Prior studies have shown significant sex differences in the presentation of both acute and chronic coronary syndromes. As coronary atherosclerosis is an important driver of cardiovascular disease events in both sexes, it is critically important to understand sex differences in atherosclerotic features to provide better sex-specific treatment strategies in the future.
