Crosstalk-and Latency-Aware Wavelength Assignment Method for WDM-based Optical Network-on-Chip

Crosstalk noise is a critical issue in optical network-on-chip (ONoC) when using the Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) technology to support high bandwidth and low latency. The increased parallelism of optical signal would induce crosstalk to overlapping communications at different wavelengths, decreasing the optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR), thus the reliability of ONoC. To increase the OSNR and decrease the latency, we propose a wavelength assignment (WA) method at design time (named CLWA), considering the number of wavelengths reserved for each communication and the wavelength spacing between the target signal and interfering signals. The simulation results indicate that our CLWA method can find a set of promising solutions with high reliability and low latency.
