Static calibration based on superposition of splines in one variable

The problem of static calibration of measurement channels is considered under an assumption that the raw result of measurement depends both on a scalar measurand and on a scalar influence quantity. The methodology of calibration, based on the superposition of splines in one variable, and the mathematical justification of the corresponding algorithm of static calibration is given. Effectiveness is examined using synthetic representing a measurement channel. Four procedures of calibration based on the use of combinations of parabolic/cubic and interpolation/smoothing splines are compared; the accuracy of measurements, based on the results of calibration, is used as the main criterion of comparison. Some recommendations are formulated concerning the applicability of the proposed algorithms of calibration.
