Bioengineering and Biotechnology: A European Perspective

Many careers in science and engineering are built on the framework of competitive research and thriving industry. Consequently, it is important to understand the status of research, research funding, and the biomedical industry in judging the prospects for successful careers in bioengineering and biotechnology. This section outlines the current state of research and the biomedical technology industry in Europe – it includes parts of a position paper [1] produced by the European Alliance for Medical and Biological Engineering and Science (EAMBES) in 2005.
