Comment on ‘How’ to Conduct an Action Research Study in the Domain of Information Systems Development

In recent years there has been much interest in applying an action research framework to Information Systems Development, particularly Information Systems Development which resides in the interpretivist paradigm. Consideration of the action research literature, indicates that many descriptions of action research do not comment on the practicalities of ‘how’ to conduct the action research study, but rather focus on the nature of action research and its merits as an alternative to positivist research (Checkland, 1991; Stowell et al., 1997).
