Economics and accidents: a commentary.

Article presenting the author's findings from his research on the correlation between economic problems and rate of traffic deaths. It is suggested that accident-prevention incentives be introduced in times of economic recession to motivate safer conduct. Past incentive programs for occupational and traffic safety have employed a great variety of rewards: money, merchandise, saving stamps, extra holidays, expression of social recognition, and free extension of the validity of a driver's license.
