IMC-PID Design of DC-DC Converters Exhibiting Non-minimum phase Characteristics

This paper investigates the IMC (Internal Model Control) based PID tuning with first order filter for DC-DC converters exhibiting non-minimum phase (NMP) characteristics. The bandwidth of these converters are confined due to the presence of RHP (Right Half Plane) zero in output voltage to duty cycle transfer function. So, it is challenging task for any control method. Here, in this work the maximum achievable bandwidth is obtained based on their transfer functions. Alongside, IMC based PID controller designed which is having some prominent features like any bandwidth can be achieved (up to maximum achievable bandwidth) and the PID parameters, filter coefficient (λ) are obtained directly without any assumptions. The complete analysis are verified by simulation results using MATLAB/SIMULINK and also validated through experiments.
