UWB Imaging for Early Breast Cancer Detection using Time Reversal MUSIC Algorithm

Here we present the application of time reversal-MUSIC algorithm for the microwave imaging of early breast cancer detection by using UWB signal illumination. The breast is modeled as a two dimensional homogeneous lossy dielectric medium. The time reversal MUSIC algorithm is used to find the image of malignant tissue in a cluttered environment created by back scattering from the breast tissue heterogeneity. A preprocessing method is utilized on received signal to extend the use of the proposed algorithm for UWB frequency range. The time reversal MUSIC technique is applied at the output of the receive antenna array to determine the location of malignant tissue by making use of dielectric contrast at microwave frequencies.
