MINIMISING CONSTRUCTION WASTE - A STUDY BY APPLYING THE LEAN CONSTRUCTION TECHNIQUES

Abstract The role and utilization of natural resources in sustaining life on earth is inevitable. Therefore it is very essential to optimize the usage of available resources in all fields. Anything beyond absolute minimum is considered as waste. As far as construction industry is concerned resources play vital role thereby creating necessity to minimize the construction waste. Implementing the concept of lean Construction helps in minimizing the waste without sacrificing productivity. Lean construction along with its tools like Continuous Improvement, Last Planner System etc, has already taken a stand firm in developed nations. The challenge now lies in implementing it in the developing countries like India. This current study is an exploratory research in identification of construction waste and corresponding techniques that are used to eliminate it. Accordingly a questionnaire was prepared and surveyed with the sample size of 80 respondents from Thanjavur, Trichy, and Pudukottai. The obtained data were intended to resolve for the results using IBM SPSS Statistics 23 (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) software with various tools like one way ANOVA and Linear Regression Analysis. The outcomes from the study will help in further categorizing construction waste and assessing how effective the techniques are used.
