GIS-based ecological suitability evaluation for town development used-land in Dalian city

The sustainable development of ecology and environment is the base of regional sustainable development,while the evaluation of land eco-suitability is the base and premise of the planning on ecology and environment.With the help of advanced GIS and RS technology,and by using the multi factor-overlay method,multi factors weighted with pair-wise comparisons,land eco-suitability in Dalian,Liaoning Province was thoroughly analyzed by selecting regionally representative factors.Five classes of ecological suitability ranging from extreme to low were generated: extreme suitability zone,suited zone, moderate suitability zone,low suitability zone and ill-suited zone,and advices and corresponding measures for different zones are put forward.The results showed that:about 46.05% of the study area was lower moderate ecological suitability zone,which showed that the eco-suitability was rather low,thus providing scientific foundation for rational urban industry distribution and regional eco-environment protection in the future.
