Multiaxial miniaturized load cell for measuring forces acting through a sternotomy

ConclusionsA miniaturized multiaxial load cell was developed and calibrated. The transducer geometry was designed for sternal closure following sternotomy. The overall accuracy was deemed satisfactory for the measurement of the main load components acting through the median sternotomy. One pilot test has been carried out on sheep demonstrating the feasibility of the intraoperative measurements. Application on the animal model is currently successfully ongoing.
