A case of deep-seated submandibular cavernous hemangioma.

A 28-year-old male had hemangioma in the submandibular region. Phlebolithiasis was present in the hemangioma, which originated independently from the submandibular gland, although the gland was involved by the hemangioma. The histology showed cavernous hemangioma. Its characteristics were similar to those of the 9 previously reported cases in Japan.Palpation, ultrasonography and computed tomography were useful in the diagnosis. The tumor was removed surgically. Early ligature of the main supplying arteries, which had been demonstrated by angiography, was useful.
