A Multivision Linear Filter for Capturing Multispectral Images

A multi-spectral optical system is presented that focuses three images of different wavebands through a common aperture onto a single focal plane of a camera array. The wavebands are determined by placing interference filters in the optical path. The system was compared to a commercial multi-spectral imager and had the advantage that the field of view could be projected across the total width of the camera array. Chromatic aberration prevented the commercial multispec imager from having a common focus for the 540nm, 750nm, and 950nm wavebands. The multivision linear filter design equally focused all wavebands and allowed more light to reach the camera array. The multivision linear filter design is one third of the cost for the multispec imager.
