Fundus image analysis for detection of fovea: A review

The fovea is essential characteristics of the eye. It is the sight of our sharpest vision and is the center of Macula. As the severity level of the retinal diseases causing vision loss is related to abnormalities appears in the retina with respect to its distance from fovea. So clinically it is one of the important features to identify for characterization of the pathologies related to retina. Some changes in the appearance of the fundus win extra importance if they seem close to fovea where the photoreceptors important for the main vision are located. Here we examined the numerous early studies that are used for the extraction of fovea from digital fundus images in accordance to main segmentation categories that fight back for poor contrast and obscuration by the lesions issues of fovea detection.
