Digital Design Method of Wood Grain Pattern Based on Kansei

The wood grain pattern is used as a design element of an artificial thing because it gives impressions such as "peacefulness" and "composure". Although fundamental method of using a wood grain pattern is a method of processing natural material as a product, it is not advantageous in respect of cost. Then, in order to cheaply use beautiful grain, the technique of printing a wood grain pattern is adopted. However, there is a problem that it is difficult to design a wood grain pattern with the impression which a customer demands. In this research, in order to generate the wood grain pattern according to a customer's demand, the control method of the wood grain impression based on sensitivity is proposed. First, a customer's sensitivity data was extracted by the SD method. Next, the two-dimensional Fourier transform was used as the technique of changing a fixed quantity of the features of a grain picture. The amount of the features of a power spectrum is obtained by a Fourier analysis. Both correlation is analyzed, and a grain picture is reconstructed by inverse Fourier transform. The basic system of the proposal technique was built, and the usefulness was verified by evaluation experiment.
