An optimized multilevel inverter topology with asymmetrical DC sources for photovoltaic power generation interface

This paper discusses a novel multilevel inverter topology. Using only six power devices and two asymmetrical DC sources, the proposed topology is capable of synthesizing seven-level output voltage waveform. As will be seen, the proposed configuration uses the least number of power devices and DC sources as compared to the conventional topologies reported in the literature. Simulation results verifying the operation of the proposed optimized configuration are also presented. Overall topology properties, PV application with grid interface, and experimental results of the prototypes will be presented in this paper along with detailed simulation results.
