Acute Hypersensitivity Reaction to Penicillin During General Anesthesia: A Case Report

CUTE hypersensitivity reactions during A anesthesia are rare. Such reactions may be due to drugs other than the anesthetic agents.'-" It is not uncommon to initiate antibiotic therapy during the course of general anesthesia, particularly in contaminated or grossly infected patients. Antibiotics, acting as antigens, may initiate severe hypersensitivity reactions, including anaphylaxis. Among antibiotics, penicillin has been by far the most common cause of such reactions.
