Whipstock assembly and method for running and fixing the assembly

PURPOSE: To provide a one-trip type whipstock assembly to incorporate a hydraulically set anchor containing an interlock for maintaining the anchor in its set position upon interruption of a liquid pressure. CONSTITUTION: An anchor 12 is coupled to the lower end of a whipstock assembly 10 which also includes a whipstock 22 to divert cutting tools, and a locater sub 18 to position the whipstock assembly 10 in a cased well bore 14. The whipstock assembly 10 is designed to be run into the well using a running string 24 or a mill coupled to the upper end of the whipstock 22 in order to locate and set the whipstock 22 and mill the casing in only one trip.
