INDUSTRY PONDERS FUTURE OF RESPONSIBLE CARE

A palpable sense that the industry's environmental ethical standards and performance were not all the\ could be pervaded the Chemical Manufacturers Association's (CMA) Responsible Care conference in late April in Orlando. Adopted nearly 10 years ago. the Responsible Care program is essentially a promise CMA companies have made to the public to manage chemical businesses in a way that preserves the environment, limits risks to human health, and promotes safe plant operation and transport of chemical products. Nearly 420 safety, health, and environmental performance officers of 200 or so member companies, industry suppliers, and allied trade groups met at the conference to consider the accomplishments of the program to date.
