Estudio estadistico de la ortografía castellana: (1) La frecuencia silábica.

A cozpus of Spanish syllables was built including several statistical indices for each syllable. We initially sampled about 25.000 ordinary words included in paragraphs extracted from natural texts. Fre- quency measures were computed for three different sets of words: the whole sample or words, the closed class words and the open class words. For each set of words both the absolute frequency and the posi- tional frequency of each syllable were counted. The positional frequency involved two indices: the direct positional frequency and the weighted positional frequency. The weighted positional frequency was computed dividing the direct positional frequency of a given syllable by the number of words that have enough lenght to potentially contain the target syllable in such position.
