Embedding the management of evolution into strategic learning

The paper discusses the problem of strategy process as a part of the management of the evolution process in industrial organisations. Emphasis is put on the question of how we can build an adaptive organisation that is capable to anticipate changes in its operational environment, and that is capable to adjust its objectives according to the changes. In the strategy literature a lot of attention is put on the strategy formation phase, which has lead us to the situation where strategy is often seen as a pure planning task. The implementation phase and the creation of feedback mechanism for strategic learning are typically overlooked activities. A set of methods and tools are introduced that can be used to improve management of evolution and strategic learning; benchmarking, process assessment, modelling and participative simulation techniques. These methods and tools are developed in the EUREKA TIME project.
