Operating experience of the alpha--gamma facility (AGF)

The Alpha-Gamma Facility at the PNC O-arai Engineering Center has been operating successfully since October 1971 without experiencing major difficulties. The function of this facility is the physical, metallurgical, and chemical examination of irradiated plutonium-bearing fuels. Two lines of main concrete cells are provided: one has a shielding capacity of 10,000 Ci for irradiated fuels and the other a shielding capacity of 2000 Ci. The main types of examination are nondestructive tests, metallography, physical measurements, and chemical analysis. (auth)
