Interacionismo simbólico: contribuições para se pensar os processos identitários

This paper aims to present and discuss contributions of symbolic interactionism to understand the identities beyond a essentialized and naturalized perspective. For this purpose, works from representatives of symbolic interactionism and its commentators have been consulted, which helped us to contextualize and understand the contributions of this important segment of social thought. The article suggests that the concepts of self, other-significant, other-general, situation and context are important contributions to the understanding of identity processes as an expression of power relations and domination produced by the feelings of belonging and difference that classify and rank socially actors in interaction.
