Passage of molecules through yeast cell walls: A brief essay‐review

For molxules to enter yeasts, they must pass through the cell wall first and then the plasmalemma. a limiting membrane between the cell wall and the cytosol and a permeability barrier to many solutes. A simple view of the cell wall is that of a sieve with fairly large holes, through which compounds can diffuse readily, if they are not too big. However, most observations on the passage oflarger molecules are not consistent with this interpretation; furthermore, porin-like proteins have not been found in yeast cell walls.’
