Condition monitoring of the grinding process using light scattering

The light scattered from a surface can be used to categorise that surface with respect to surface finish. This paper describes the use of light scattering for the condition monitoring of surfaces over the life of a grinding wheel. The light intensity and colour content are shown to be related to the surface finish.
