A Job with the New Jersey Zinc Company

Soon I was working as a chemist for the New Jersey Zinc Company in Palmerton, Pennsylvania. This was in “Pennsylvania Dutch” country. A young woman and I had the job of doing chemical analysis. I hoped my work was satisfactory but I longed to do something more like research. The laboratory director was very kind when I told him about this and soon I was doing experiments mixing carbon black or zinc oxide into rubber, and testing the results. I don’t remember the details but I rather enjoyed the work.
