Improvement of Work Roll Bending Control System Installed at Plate Mill Stand

The paper describes the automated performance data control systems of the 5,000 mm horizontal mill stand mounted at OJSC Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works. The Work Roll Bending system enabling automated compensation of roll reverse bending during rolling is to be considered as the most essential assembly. The authors provide the system design and its performance setting oscillograph records. Proportional control of the force applied to the servo-valve is proved to result in dynamic pressure surges within the hydraulic system at metal withdrawal from rolls. They offer the improved WRB design with an additional disturbance control channel. Experiments prove elimination of the above drawback. The system has been commissioned at the 5,000 mm mill and is successfully operated at the moment.
