MOW Dollars: Our 6th Annual Survey: For the Fourth-Straight Year, More Railroads Budget More Money to Build and Maintain Track

This is Progressive Railroading's sixth annual maintenance of way (MOW) survey of 55 Class I railroads, regional and short-line railroads, and passenger railroads. It relates that a total of $5.1 billion is being budgeted for MOW projects for 2007 by Class I railroads, reflecting a $1.2 billion increase from 2006. 17 regional and short-line railroads plan to increase their MOW spending from 2006, while 14 passenger transit agencies have budgeted at least the same amount, or more, from 2006. Profiles and statistics are given for 8 Class I railroads, 25 regionals and short lines, and 22 passenger railroads are profiled.
