Quasi RFID-WSNs Hybrid Object Networks for Fault Detection and Equipment Monitoring in Marine Ships

The fault detection and monitoring of equipments in marine ships is a critical issue, since the maintenance operations and response need to be conducted timely. Traditional fault detection and monitoring system extensively rely on embedded circuits, which have to be deployed in advance. It thus encounters two inappropriate constraints such as the difficulties of incremental deployment, and detection of potential faults. In this paper, we propose a RFID-WSNs hybrid object networks for fault detection to enhance the accuracy and promptness of equipment monitoring. Hybrid object is a physical object with unique identity and appropriate sensing functions. The network of hybrid objects can detect the environmental parameters for the potential risks, especially the risks from the inner containers and inaccessible spaces. The identity can fast localize the potential risks on what physical objects.
