The effect of trust and risk on user involvement (abstract)

One of the most frequently studied hypotheses in the MIS literature is that greater user involvement in the system development process leads to more successful systems. Yet, despite the strong arguments supporting the benefits of user involvement, a metaanalysis of empirical research shows the correlation between user involvement and satisfaction to be a modest 0.28 (Striiub and Trower, 1988). Have researchers overestimated the importance of involvement? Or, as Ives and Olson (1984) suggest, are the empirical rcsuhs underestimating the correlation due to methodological shortcomings in this research?
