Medieval iron artifacts from the Newbury area of Berkshire: metallurgical examination

This examination covers ten iron artifacts (arrowheads, spearheads, knives and a stake-like implement) which range from the 11th century (Viking) to late Medieval. Hardness measurements are quoted, and the study indicates that medieval arrowheads, while skillfully forged, consist in general of wrought iron. Spearheads and knives may well be in a higher metallurgical class. -- AATA
