An Analytical Study of Intake Tuning for Helical Rotor Expanders

A rather complete mathematical model of a circular lobed helical rotor expander has been modified to include dynamic interactions with the intake plumbing. Parametric studies were performed to determine the effects of these dynamics on overall machine performance. It was found that variations in the intake geometry caused substantial variations in output power for a given steady state RPM: however, actual supercharging using passive intake tuning was not possible.
