Baboon syndrome after oral penicillin

nickel-reactive T-cell clones with copper and palladium (4). A 3rd explanation, suggesting that concomitant sensitivity is likely as nickel and palladium often occur together in metals, has been largely ruled out as the 2 are not associated in mining (5). The rôle of palladium as a true allergen has even been questioned by the absence of positive patch test reactions to palladium foil in patients sensitized to palladium chloride (2). In light of a recent EU directive restricting the use of nickel in all products placed in direct and prolonged contact with the skin, palladium exposure is likely to increase within our communities. Without a clear understanding of the mechanisms of palladium allergy, the full impact of this change is impossible to assess, and it is with interest that we await any possible changes in the prevalence of metal allergy within our clinics.
