Common colds complicated by acute sinusitis.

Relevance to family physicians Acute sinusitis is one of the most common conditions treated in outpatient settings in North America. Surveyed about current health problems, 14% of Americans reported a diagnosis of sinusitis. Acute sinusitis accounts for 4.6% ofyoung adults' visits to physicians.1 In the 1992 National Ambulatory Medical Survey,2 sinusitis was the fifth most common diagnosis for which antibiotics were prescribed in the United States.2 Each
