Advantages and Conditions for a Direct Measurement of the Workpiece-Geometry on NC-Machine Tools

Summary The present development stage of NC-machine tools and progress made in the field of 3-D-measurement techniques apparently permit a measurement of the manufactured product-geometry directly on the machine tool itself. This is not only technically possible but also economically feasible. Based on the measurement of the operating accuracy of machine tools and the developments made in the field of 3-D-measurement techniques, CNC techniques and more recent measurement methods, this paper deals with the direct measurement on machine tools itself.
