Time-Domain Analysis with Self-Optimizing Prony Predictor for Accelerated Field-Based Design

We present a combination of Prony's method with a time domain TLM solver to speed up the optimization of microwave devices. In this procedure, the Prony model is itself automatically optimized at each cycle of the optimization loop before it predicts the late response of the transient signal generated by the TLM simulator. This combination is particularly useful when optimizing high-Q structures such as filters and resonators, especially in situations where several hundreds of simulations are needed. We illustrate this combination by optimizing an iris-coupled band pass filter. The results demonstrate the considerable gain in speed and numerical efficiency enabled by this approach.
