Fluid/structure interaction in numerical aeroelastic simulation

Abstract This paper describes a fluid/structure interaction method for application in aeroelastic analyses of aircraft in transonic flow. The method is based on an improved time integration scheme of a linear structural model being loosely coupled to non-linear Euler/Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes equations for the aerodynamic part. Two- and three-dimensional test cases are presented which demonstrate the adequate accuracy and good efficiency for use in aircraft design practice.
