Cyclic prefix reconstruction for single-carrier systems with frequency-domain equalization

With the help of cyclic prefix (CP), the single carrier (SC) systems with frequency domain equalizer (FDE) have the same advantages and performances as those of the traditional orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. In addition, the SC systems are less sensitive to frequency synchronization error and RF impairments such as power amplifier nonlinearities. Unfortunately, the use of CP degrades the bandwidth efficiency of SC systems. This paper is commenced by proposing a data detector for SC systems without CP, where the maximum likelihood (ML) principle is adopted. Since the proposed scheme has a high computational complexity and is difficult to implement, this study further presents two low-complexity cyclic prefix reconstruction (CPR) methods. Finally, the simulation results are conducted to demonstrate that the proposed schemes substantially improve the bit error rate (BER) performance.
