A protective superposed layer composite glass structure includes at least one glass plate, a polyurethane film, and a polyvinyl butyral sheet between the glass plate and the polyurethane film for attaching the polyurethane sheet to the glass plate. A polycarbonate plate is superposed against the polyurethane film. Alternatively, a polyester sheet can be superposed against the polyurethane film. A process for making a superposed layer composite glass structure includes surrounding the various layer elements with bands formed of a thermo-retractable material, calendering the layered elements surrounded by the bands at a temperature approximately in the range of 120 DEG to 200 DEG C. and subsequently subjecting the layered elements surrounded by the bands to the action of an autoclave at a temperature approximately in the range of 120 DEG to 200 DEG C. under a pressure approximately in the range of 10 to 15 bars. The polyvinyl butyral sheet and the polyurethane film can be woven to include projecting surfaces on either or both surfaces.
